2011 Tournament is pau!
Aloha All,
A BIG MAHALO to everyone for a very successful event last July 16-17 weekend.
We are proud to announce that with everyone’s help, we generated a little over $6,000 net proceeds
towards the Kona Visayan Club Scholarship Fund.
It was a weekend of great tennis, great company, and great food.
Blessed with clear Kona skies, superb tennis was abound and on
display at all levels.
We have consistently eclipsed the previous year’s tourney each and
every time. This year was no exception.
We had over 160 competitors from across the state and even
from the mainland! Yes, we are no longer simply a Big Island
event or even a state event. We have now entered the realm of
“national event” status with players coming from Hilo and Oahu,
and as far as San Diego and Texas! :-)
But what’s markedly different this year is that close to half of participants competed in two events!
This produced a big draw in each division that translated to a lot of tennis.
Building on the tradition of success from past tourneys, the Silent Auction and Hit for Prizes returned
to an enthusiastic reception from players and spectators alike.
Making a repeat performance was a potluck party complete with a live band, "the Holua Tennis Band"
(c/o Richard Kahalioumi), to cheer on our July birthday celebrants and for a successful 1st day of
tennis !! There were lots of ono food, desserts, refreshments, music, and even some dancing! That
makes for a truly unique tennis tournament this side of the Pacific.
